************Plagiarism************
According Etienne Gilson, a true scholar is essentially a man whose intellectual life is part and parcel of his moral life, in other words, a scholar is a man who has decided once and for all to carry all the requirements of his moral consciousness into his intellectual life. And this statement is clearly violated by the author of the Student revision 1, because he did not just copy and paste the ideas of his two sources but also he treated those ideas as if those ideas are originally his. He mixed up ideas from R.O. Dent and Michel Souris and did not mind to paraphrase even a single sentence. This is a very concrete example of Intellectual Dishonety, the act of claiming other's ideas without giving proper credits to the original author, while that of student Revision 2, the author recognized that the ideas of his essay really came from 2 sources, and what he did is compiling them and make the ideas comprehensive.
The difference between the two compositions is that the author of Student Revision 2 is humble enough to acknowledge his sources, and brave enough to admit that his essay is a comparison of the two authors, but the other author did otherwise. Although the author of student revision 2 mentioned the original owners of the ideas he compiled, he missed to put the proper citation at the end of his work. And this is very important because you're not just avoiding yourself from committing Plagiarism but you also give useful details to your readers if ever they'll think of expand their knowledge about a certain topic you used from another author. So proper citation is like hitting two birds in one stone, you were able to live with moral and intellectual honesty, plus you get to share others useful resources for their personal research in the future.
Plagiarism can be committed intently or accidentally, and this is very common to us Filipinos even people from the judiciary sector is involved in a plagiarism case, so the best thing that we can do to avoid this not just for ourselves but for the entire Filipino community and to the world is to train our students even from grade school on how to cite properly their sources when making online researches or even when they do research using the library. In this way, we inculcate in them the idea of Intellectual Honesty at an early age, so that in the future when they do research papers or submit articles they will find it easy to avoid themselves from committing this shameful mistake. And this will only prove that the youths of today are still the hope of tomorrow in attaining genuine change.
